Salvation is a gift from God, not something that can be earned. The gift is received by the out-stretched hand of faith, which is itself a gift from God.
Most people would likely say no; miracles no longer happen in our modern world as they did in the days of Jesus. Yet, God has not walked away. He is still active and intervening in our lives, sometimes by what we might even call a miracle.
Humans in general think of self first. To be humble goes against natural prideful nature. Jesus turns this upside down, because in his Kingdom, those who humble themselves will be exalted, and those who exalt themselves will be brought down.
